Ivory osteoma

Pathology

  1. Most common benign tumour of skull vault
  2. Arise from cortical bone and radiological may resenble sclerotic reaction produced by a meningioma

 

Approach

  • Examine as for any lump
  1. Inspect

    • Sessile flat mounts
  2. Palpate
    • Smooth surface
    • Bony hard in consistency
    • Can move to superficial layers of the scalp
  3. Percuss
  4. Auscultate 

Management

Leave alone unless symptomatic
